A study of 337 subjects with increased risk for type-2 diabetes revealed that magnetic resonance imaging-quantified visceral fat mass was significantly associated (p = .0002) with [[rs17173608]]; carriers of a (G) allele displayed lower visceral adipose tissue mass. They were also nominally associated with a lower waist-to-hip ratio (p = .0295). Neither observation held in obese subjects.{{PMID|19303973}}
