|Annotation=Rare variants (Minor allele frequency less than 3%) in candidate genes were identified by resequencing of exons and splice sites in pools of cases and controls. These were then tested in 8379 cases and 10,575 controls (from Great Britain) and in 3165 families from Europe and the USA, and the minor allele T of rs35744605 was found to be associated with a protective effect(case-control: 95% CI OR = 0.69; families: 95% CI RR = 0.55) against Diabetes Mellitus, Insulin-Dependent (combined p = 1.3 x 10 (-3)).
